Shrewsbury is quite a large town and has many towns around it only one of which is larger than Shrewsbury itself. Being one of many carpet fitters in Shrewsbury you would think lack of work would be a problem but all year round there are enough carpets being brought for all carpet fitters in Shrewsbury to be kept busy.

It is quite strange really as I have spoken to other carpet shops within the county and not all of them have the same busy trade as the carpet shops in Shrewsbury, many of their carpet fitters are down to only working a few days a week, some shops one in a town about 30 miles away in particular, I can recall his carpet fitters had to go and find other work and would only fit carpets for the carpet shop on their days off or at weekends.

One offer though that has made a lot of individual carpet fitters struggle is the offer some of the carpet shops do with the free fitting on all or certain carpets, that is such a joke as there is no such thing as free fitting, the charges the shop would usually charge the customer for the carpet fitting has been either added onto the accessories they have been told they need to buy or the shop has increased the cost of the underlay for the duration of the period when they have the free fitting offer, one way or another the carpet shop will ensure they get the cost of the carpet fitting out of the customer, maybe not the customer that is having the carpet fitted but possibly another customer who is not even having their carpet fitted but decided to buy underlay. The carpet shop fitters still get paid no matter what, in some cases carpet fitters that work for shops even though they are paid directly by the customer the shop will claw money back from the fitter per job as a sort of commission for each carpet fitting job they gave them. I tend to stay away from places like that and work for the smaller trader to whom customer service is still a priority.
