Where not to fit laminate flooring in your bathroom!

Luckily this story is not about me but a very good friend who shall remain unnamed due to the fact she would be completely humiliated and totally ashamed of herself if I did name her.
My friend who as I said shall remain unnamed moved into a new house not so long ago and because it was her first house decided to spend all her savings on decorating the house as she wanted it to be done. There’s nothing like putting a stamp on a house and making it your own well she certainly did.
She decided as she wanted the house to have a young and trendy look to the interior that she would have laminate flooring throughout the house, she had looked at real wood flooring but it was too expensive and she did not like the look of the vinyl flooring that looked like the laminate flooring although I did tell her that it would possibly be best to use that sort of flooring in her kitchen, utility and bathroom.
As she lived in Shrewsbury she hunted around for companies that did laminate fitting in Shrewsbury, she did not find that many so I told her to look for carpet fitters in Shrewsbury as most of those companies would also cover the laminate fitting in Shrewsbury. Finally she found a company in Shrewsbury that gave her a very good price to fit all her laminate flooring throughout her house. A few weeks later the laminate flooring was fitting and like I had advised her she went for the wood affect vinyl flooring in her kitchen and utility room, I did not think to ask about the bathroom but since she had followed my advice about the kitchen and utility room and presumed she had about the bathroom as well.
Anyway a couple of months later she phoned me and said there was a horrible smell upstairs in her house and she could not for the life of her work out what it was and would I pop round and see if I could work it out.
I went round and we went through all the bedrooms and I could not locate the source of the foul smell, finally I opened the bathroom door and the stench hit me, it stank like bad drains and stale water, I asked her if she was having a problem with her drains and maybe it was coming back up her pipes, she said no and that she had had someone to come and look at her drains. I plucked up the courage and walked into the bathroom as I did I heard the noise of my shoes walking on laminate flooring I asked her if this was laminate or vinyl, she told me laminate as she did not want to slip of the vinyl when she got out of the bath and it looked much nicer in here. There’s your problem I told her, the water that you have splashed or dripped when getting out of the bath has got under the laminate and is sitting underneath it and making the awful smell. Within the next couple of days the laminate flooring was ripped up and the room was left to air ready for the vinyl flooring to be put down.
